Overview

Johnny’s, nestled along Sumulong Highway in Antipolo City, Rizal, is a takeout restaurant that captures the heart of traditional Filipino comfort food with a nostalgic twist. Known primarily for its standout dishes such as Lumpiang Sariwa, Pancit Canton, Chopsuey Rice, and especially Johnny's Fried Chicken, this humble spot continues to draw in locals craving familiar flavors that resonate with memories of simpler days.

The fried chicken is undoubtedly the star attraction. It carries that iconic crispiness, with meat juicy yet slightly overcooked just enough to create a distinctive texture cherished by many long-time patrons. The unique banana ketchup-based dipping sauce—sweetened and thinned out—is a secret flavor that many first-timers might miss but instantly triggers nostalgia in those who have grown up savoring it. It’s a taste that evokes old family lunches and carefree moments in the Philippines’ culinary scene, especially compared to commercialized counterparts like Max’s or KFC.

Aside from the chicken, their Pancit Canton and Chopsuey Rice represent classic Filipino noodle and vegetable dishes, delivering hearty, satisfying meals that pair well with any main course. The Lumpiang Sariwa offers a refreshing balance, filled with fresh vegetables wrapped in soft crepes, a welcome palate cleanser amid the richer offerings.

Johnny’s embraces its no-frills setting—modest and low-key—focusing on delivering great food rather than elaborate ambiance. This straightforward atmosphere caters well to families and individuals looking for affordable, flavorful Filipino dishes without fuss. While some visitors note the space can feel a bit warm and service simple, the food's quality and authenticity keep customers returning, whether for dine-in, takeout, or the convenience of delivery.

Those seeking authentic Pinoy comfort food find Johnny’s a consistent haven, especially those who long for familiar tastes that have quietly resisted modern franchising’s influence. It is a true embodiment of Filipino culinary tradition—unpretentious, rich in flavor, and deeply nostalgic.

i grew up in marikina, so when we wanted chicken, it was johnny´s. This was the olden days when max was in QC only and KFC had one kiosk (which closed not soon after) in santa mesa. And mind you we were way poorer then so johnny´s was the height of indulgence. So for me this is more a nostalgia trip and it is a craving for chicken. I found it tasted the same as it has always been, skin crispy, meat slightly over cooked (but still enjoyeable). My nephews could not guess the sauce but us oldtimers know it is a thinned down and sweetened banana ketchup lol. It was similar to max´s back in the day down to the coconut oil aftertaste and the condiments (the aforementioned banana ketchup based sauce) and the worcestershire sauce that is cheaper than the lea and perrins brand and the hot sauce. But not anymore since Max´s became a franchise joint. Now johnny´s beats it hands down and with one leg tied to the other. It is not that johnny´s became better just max became so much worse. Max´s gained a franchise but lost the tadte that made it famous. So if you are like me and want to re-live those moments when your dad took you to lunch and ordered a whole spring chicken just for you.... go to Johnny´s. I can almost sense my dad chuckling beside me as i go through the chicken.

It has been decades since I last ate at Johnny’s, but this didn’t disappoint. We didn’t order the chicken though.

Pinoy food that's cheap and good. Dinuguan is a must try. It only costs like 90 pesos and is good for two people. Their fried chicken is better than Max's it was very juicy inside. The chicken lollipop is okay. Lechon kawali was a favorite too — too bad it wasn't available when we went back. I wouldn't recommend the tempura since the batter is not the light one that we are used to.

Finally got the chance to dine in! Our family always order pancit with lechon here. They have delivery service that makes it convenient. The store itself is low-key but food is delicious and affordable.

Service was nothing great. It was also a bit hot in the restaurant BUT the chicken is still as good as ever. Better than other similar chicken stores for me. Plus the ketchup dipping sauce is on point. Definitely worth coming back for! So good i didn't even remember to take a photo untilit was almost finished
